Representatives from the Blue Economy Department meet with Head of the Chancery of the Indian High Commission

On Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023, The Department of Blue Economy represented by the Director General – Mr. Chrissant Barbe, Principal Programme Development Officer – Mr. Terrence Crea & Senior International Cooperation Officier – Ms. Gabriella Gonthier had a meeting with Mr. Vikram Grewal, Head of the Chancery of the Indian High Commission. The goal of the meeting was to enhance and expand the current Blue Economy Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Seychelles and India. The department and Mr. Grewal engaged in in-depth discussions to explore new avenues for collaboration in the realm of the Blue Economy.

During this meeting, several relevant issues were thoroughly discussed. One way India can support Seychelles is by exchanging technical expertise. Mr. Grewal mentioned that India is ready to send a delegation to help the Department in any aspect related to the Blue Economy.

Furthermore, during the discussion, an important point was raised regarding India’s potential to assist Seychelles in the development of its blue economy. This support could be provided through enhancing capacity-building efforts in various aspects of the blue economy. A noteworthy example of this is the provision of free courses by i-tech, both in virtual and in-person formats in India. These courses can greatly contribute to the capacity building of Seychelles.

The meeting proved to be extremely productive, with both parties demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing the current MoUs in order to yield tangible outcomes from this vital agreement.
