Opening of the Cascade Fisheries Facility

The Cascade Fisheries Facility was officially opened this morning during a ceremony by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde and the EU Ambassador for Seychelles, Mr. Vincent Degert.

SFA initiated the project in 2019, with the support of the European Union, to build facilities for the benefit of the Cascade community as well as all those using the Cascade lagoon as a harbor or fish landing area. The facilities comprises of 12 Gear stores, Fish market & fish cleaning area, Landing shed, a Fish shop, three Gear shops and two Offices. The project also consisted of the dredging of the lagoon, reclamation works, expansion of the quay, construction of rock armoring and the construction of a slip way.

During his opening remarks, Minister Radegonde, replacing Minister Ferrari who is away on an overseas mission, highlighted the importance of sustainable fisheries and the need for fishers and the public to adhere to the measures of the Mahe Plateau Trap and line fishery Co-Management plan. The EU Ambassador, the Chairman of the Fishermen Association of Cascade, the Chairman of the SFA Board also addressed the invitees. Students from Cascade Primary school prepared performances for this event and the bishop of the roman Catholic church also blessed the facilities during the opening.

Present for the ceremony was a delegation from the EU, SFA board directors, PS for Fisheries, Deputy CEO, MNAs & District Administrators of Cascade and Point Larue, members of the Cascade Fishermen Association, and officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.
