Call for participation and pitchers for the forum on sustainable development of the Indian Ocean (ADD-OI) – Madagascar

The Forum on Sustainable Development of the Indian Ocean (ADD-OI) will be held in Antananarivo from November 4 to 5, 2022 under the patronage of His Excellency, The Prime Minister of the Republic of Madagascar.

This event falls within the framework of Madagascar’s Presidency of the Indian Ocean Commission, and illustrates the commitment made by member countries (Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles, and France) extended to Maldives and Tanzania (Zanzibar) to actively fight against global warming.

This regional commitment will be made through concrete and targeted business projects, involving the 7 identified countries and also 3 privileged partner countries which are Morocco, the United Arab Emirates and India.

The preparatory phase of the ADD-OI started right after the COP 26 to engage major regional economic and institutional actors in the selection and setting up of projects, and to initiate their commitment to the joint achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Indian Ocean area by 2030. The projects will be centered around three thematic areas:

(I)                 the blue economy,

(II)               the common strategy of carbon offsetting, and

(III)              one year after Glasgow: the fight against global warming

The first ADD-OI will propose a minimum of 30 projects, i.e. 10 projects per thematic area mentioned above, with obvious synergies between projects. The participating countries will be the carriers of these projects through national private sector actors, but they are also open to privileged partner countries to collaborate and capitalize together on shared expertise, interests, and know-how.

Members of the public are being invited to take part in this Forum, to strengthen the synergies of investment in the Indian Ocean and to build together ambitious projects. This is a call for investors and private sector actorsgovernment representatives involved in sustainable development in Seychelles to be part of this Forum as observers.

Furthermore, if a member of the public, investor, private sector organization or a government representative wishes to participate in the Forum itself as a pitcher, then they must submit their Blue Economy project/business factsheet to the Department of Blue EconomyThe deadline to submit a factsheet of their project/business is the 06th of October 2022.

The Focal Person for the submission of the Factsheet is:
