National Multi Stakeholder Group

The Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI) is a global multi-stakeholder initiative (in line with Goal #17 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals). This multi-stakeholder principle is paramount for the success of the FiTI. In each member country, the FiTI is implemented through a National Multi-Stakeholder Group (NMSG), which consists of an equal number of representatives from government, business and organised civil society. These groups make decisions on how the FiTI is implemented in their respective countries. They must work collectively to assess whether the fisheries information published by their governments is perceived as accessible and complete, and also offer recommendations on how to progressively improve the quality and quantity of published information over time. The active and inclusive participation of a range of stakeholders in the FiTI implementation process ensures the credibility and legitimacy of national fisheries information, in turn laying the foundations for informed management decisions.
